Frequently Asked Questions

How many can attend a class?

Generally speaking the classroom sessions are 4 hours in length and can comfortably engage around 25 students. More students can attend making the class more cost effective. However, this decreases the interaction of the classroom. We have had class sizes from 2 students all the way up to 167 students. We have found the best size to be around 25.

What is the flat rate for the 4 hour class?

  • The base cost is $500 per each class, plus $5 per person.
  • The recommended class size of 25 students would be $500 plus $125 or $625.
  • This would equate out to only $25 per person.

What does the 4-hour classroom TRAining consist of?

  • One hour of refresher defensive driving techniques
  • One hour of evasive strategies
  • One hour of technical issues
  • One hour of case studies

There are a lot of driver safety programs out there, Why TRA ?

We customizes our training to fit your specific needs. Our instructors are high qualified individuals with many years of experience teaching and in the field. Please visit our instructors page to view specific credentials. We also have a 99.5% positive comment rating.

Are there minimum training session costs?

Yes, the simulator requires a minimum of 4 hours usage ($500) at our Brooks facility or 8 hours usage ($1,000) when transported to another location.

Can we come up with a customized training session at a customized price?

Yes, TRA routinely will provide discounts to multiuser clients (both classroom and simulator), long term clients (more than one year) or clients who routinely combine large training sessions (one week of extensive training at a distant location).

If we buy many units of the online training can we just pay one price for everyone?

Yes, large licenses are available directly through TRA so that individual purchases are not necessary.

Do you provide EVOC training?

Yes and no. We provide supplemental EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course training) training by certified EVOC instructors to emergency responders. We do not provide the state required 32 - hour basic EVOC course that is DPSST (Department of Public Safety Standards and Training) certified.

Is your TRAining DPSST certified?

Yes and No. Almost all police courses can be DPSST certified, but each course needs to have a sponsor and application. For fire service employees the training is currently not certified, but can be included in the 60 hours of continuing education that is required for re-certification.

Do you have your own facility for Driver TRA ining?

Yes, we contract with the Chemeketa Regional Training Center for low speed driving and we house our simulator at that location.

Do you have a facility that can be used for supplemental EVOC training?

No, we rely on the sponsoring organization to provide a driving facility (such as a local airport runway) for EVOC training.

We are police officers. Why do we need Defensive Driver TRAining or supplemental EVOC driving?

There is one thing that our experts always agree on.  You can never be over-TRAined as long as it is the right training. Emergency responders often find themselves in situations of high stress. Making the right decision is critical. Often times, police officers are trying to record license numbers at a close proximity.

  • What is too close?
  • What is a driver’s special assessment as you are looking around trying to detect crime?
  • The technical knowledge of recognizing how fast you are going and what you can expect from your braking system may make the difference between life and death.

It may make the difference of avoiding a crash altogether. The TRAined Driving System has been proven effective in reducing motor vehicle crashes in law enforcement. One large agency has reported a 75% reduction in intersection related traffic crashes after one year. We are a results oriented company.
